A home battery stores excess electricity generated by solar panels or when the energy price is low. This stored energy can be used later, for example, at night or during peak hours.

The lifespan of a home battery depends on the number of cycles (charging and discharging). Depending on usage, a reasonable life expectancy of a home battery is around 6,000 cycles.

The reasons behind the gradual phasing out of the netting scheme are diverse, but one of the primary motivations is to achieve a balance between demand and supply on the electricity grid. Here’s an overview:

  1. Improvements in solar panels: The net metering scheme was introduced when solar panels were less efficient and expensive. With the significant decrease in the price and payback period of solar panels, it’s now feasible to gradually phase out this scheme.
  2. Encouraging self-consumption: Currently, Dutch households feed substantial amounts of green energy back into the electricity grid, leading to an oversupply compared to demand. Encouraging self-consumption, for example, through home batteries, aims to establish a new balance.
  3. Reducing strain on the electricity grid: There’s a risk of grid overload when too much electricity is fed back into the network. Hence, it’s crucial to strike a balance between the amount of electricity produced and consumed.
  4. Financial resources for other energy-saving initiatives: Post-2025, the phase-out of the net metering scheme will free up tax money, which can be directed toward supporting other energy-saving measures. This includes subsidies for insulation, renovation, and other sustainable initiatives.

The Mono-5 or Stack home battery is connected to your solar panels. When the solar panels generate energy, they look for the most immediately available users for that energy, similar to how water flows to the nearest exit when pressure is applied. In the case of energy, it operates similarly. The generated solar energy is initially used for household appliances like the washing machine, kettle, and lighting. Once your house has enough energy, the home battery is charged. When the battery is also full, any excess energy is then fed back into the electricity grid.

Landport Energy home batteries are designed to use stored energy within a period of 24-48 hours. This means you cannot charge the home battery in the summer and then use that energy in the winter. However, on a sunny winter day, you can generate and store enough energy in your energy storage system to use on a subsequent day with less sunlight.

The best battery for you depends on your energy consumption. The average daily consumption in many households is around 10 kWh. Landport Energy’s home batteries are available in different storage capacities, ranging from 5 kWh (Mono-5) to stackable units (Stack, with a capacity of 5 to 20 kWh per unit and scalable up to a maximum of 60 kWh). For small business and industrial use, we can essentially meet any storage needs.

Landport Energy works exclusively with Preferred Partners, installers committed to ensuring quality and service, aiming to offer their customers only the best energy storage solutions.

A Preferred Partner of Landport Energy is an exclusive collaborator—an installer who can ensure quality and service, committed to offering their customers only the best energy storage solutions provided by Landport Energy.

We expect a Preferred Partner – a by Landport Energy authorized installer- to guarantee quality and service and to offer their customers only the best energy storage solutions. We mutually commit to establishing both organizational and financial agreements for the long term.

Battery storage could be compelling for installers due to the increasing demand for sustainable energy storage solutions, especially when combined with or linked to PV installations. With the phase-out of net metering, a home battery becomes an appealing alternative to prevent the loss of generated solar energy.

The choice depends on the energy needs, available space, financial resources, and the desired lifespan of the system.

Landport Energy advises its Preferred Partner installers to offer maintenance contracts to end-users. Additionally, it’s important for installers to raise awareness among their customers about the significance of monitoring for optimal performance and lifespan.

Potential risks of working with energy storage systems include electric shocks, fire hazards, and chemical leaks. Installers should follow the correct safety procedures and installation guidelines while using appropriate protective equipment to minimize these risks.

Installers who are Preferred Partners of Landport Energy can directly access technical data on energy storage systems, support, and training. Additionally, Landport Energy provides opportunities for training and guidance, both in classroom settings and on-site.

Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are often chosen for their stability and long lifespan. Landport Energy’s ESS systems exclusively operate using LFP batteries.

Compatibility issues can arise between energy storage systems and various brands of solar panels or inverters. For its battery storage systems, Landport Energy advises its installers to only use inverters and other components that are compatible. Preferred Partners, authorized by Landport Energy, are expected to verify the specifications of the different components and ensure that they are installed correctly and functioning properly according to Landport Energy’s instructions.

The future prospects for the energy storage sector are promising, presenting various business opportunities for installers. The sector is experiencing rapid growth, especially in off-grid applications, commercial projects, and services related to managing energy storage systems. Anticipated reductions in net metering and increasing network congestion in the coming years are expected to further drive up demand. Engaging with Landport Energy now allows installers to grow alongside these developments.
